Supporting End-of-Life Care, Grief, and Bereavement for People With I/DD

Share

This two-day course qualifies for 12 SW CE contact hours*.

Trainer: Consuelo Senior

This experiential two-day workshop will explore the supports that are needed to assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in understanding and participating in their end-of-life planning process. It will dispel commonly held myths about the abilities of this population in understanding their right to information when dealing with their own mortality or the loss of a loved one.

The workshop will provide an overview of the forms and processes used to assist a person in planning for their end-of-life care. A comparative analysis of different religions and their practices for death and mourning will be explored. Commonalities and differences involved in the handling of this time of life will be highlighted. It will also increase clinicians’ and support professionals’ knowledge base, which is valuable when supporting people with different backgrounds through the rituals associated with their spiritual practice.
