Katherine (Kate) Hoy

Kate Hoy is an Education Advocate and Director of Advocacy Services at AHRC New York City. Kate’s team of non-attorney advocates represents hundreds of individual students and families seeking appropriate educational services in New York City each year and provides workshops and trainings for professionals and client support networks on topics related to students with disabilities. She is co-chair of the Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities Children’s Committee, a member of the ARISE Coalition, and a founding member of the Transition Alliance, a new group focused on improving post-secondary outcomes and opportunities for youth with disabilities. Kate regularly works with regional councils and stakeholders in New York City and State to advocate for the rights of students and their families. Prior to AHRC NYC, Kate worked in academic publishing as a supervising editor for national K-12 reading, math and social studies programs. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College and Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service and is a trained mediator and a licensed social worker in New York State. Kate is proudly and joyously neurodivergent. She lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with her partner Graham and a lot of rocks and records.
