Self Advocate

My name is Janice McPhillips. I was born in the Bronx, but I now I live in Yonkers with one of my sisters and my cat Cole.

I have been an advocate with YAI for many years. I advocate for housing and jobs for people with disabilities. I also am a big believer in the “Erase the R Word” movement.

I like to write about things that affect disabled people. I have written about disabled athletes, politicians and everyday people.

I am proud of the time I spoke at the United Nations and when I went to Albany to advocate for the disabled.

I enjoy arts and crafts; word finds, taking walks in the park and being with friends and family.

I want people to know that people with disabilities want to be treated with respect.
