Living the Code for Families of People Receiving Support: Understanding the Ethical Standards of Direct Support Professionals

Share

In 2001, the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) developed The Direct Support Professional Code of Ethics to provide a value based tool to guide DSPs to live up to the task of assisting people in leading self-directed lives and fully participate in their communities. In 2012, OPWDD adopted this code and recognized that it should be understood and embedded in our culture. This training was modified from a written document titled Living the Code of Ethics to give those relying on the support of DSPs and their family members an opportunity to learn and understand of the values outlined in the DSP Code of Ethics.
