Aiden Ramirez showing his Black History artwork.

Aiden Ramirez, a student at Manhattan Star Academy was selected to represent the school in the 2022 New York State Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Art & Essay Exhibition.

The exhibition will be on view through Monday, February 28, 2022, as part of New York State’s Black History Month Celebration.

Each year, the New York State Education Department honors Dr. King's legacy by inviting schools to submit original student artworks and essays that reflect his six principles and steps of nonviolence. The selection is currently on view at the Empire State Plaza Visitor Center North Concourse in Albany and the entire exhibit can be seen online.

“All of the artwork was inspired by reading about African Americans who were generous, brave, hardworking, and peaceful,” said Ramirez.

Some of Ramirez’s inspirations include Maya Angelou, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr., and Stevie Wonder.
