Who:     YAI, Premier HealthCare and the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies of the City University of New York's Graduate Center

What:    11th Spanish-Language Health Care Conference – "Hacia una Mayor Independencia" (Toward Greater Independence). This free, one-day conference will be entirely in Spanish and will include presenters from throughout the YAI Network and other experts in the field. All presenters have a deep understanding of the needs of families who have a child with a disability.

New York City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, who represents Northern Manhattan, will deliver a keynote address at 9:15. (He is leaving at 9:30)

Workshops will cover:

•    Autism

•    Advocacy skills for parents
•    Behavior management
•    Reduce your stress in navigating financial management systems
•    Sensory untegration
•    Healthy interpersonal relationships
•    Using basic technology to enhance communication

When:     Tuesday, May 12, 2015, 9 A.M. - 3 P.M. Lunch will be served

Why:     The conference is designed to provide Spanish speaking family members access to information, support, and resources pertaining to developmental disabilities in their native language. About 20.2 percent of New York State residents with disabilities are Latinos, according to the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities

This is a free conference, made possible through grants from the New York City Council's Autism Initiative, the Taft Foundation, the Brooklyn Caribe Lions Club, and through a grant secured through Davidoff Hutcher & Citron, LLP.
