YAI CEO Kevin Carey made his debut on City and State’s Nonprofit Power 100 list in October 2023, coming in at 38. New York nonprofits play a critical role in the city's social and economic wellbeing and provide essential services to hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers.

YAI, which employs 4,000 people and provides services to 20,000 adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) each year, is one of the largest nonprofit agencies in New York.

The Power 100 list recognizes the most notable nonprofit leaders who are strengthening the safety net and serving the most vulnerable people in New York. The list puts a spotlight on the leaders of social services providers, legal aid organizations, advocacy organizations, and foundations.

Carey became CEO in June of this year. He first joined YAI as Chief Financial Officer in 2016 and served as Interim CEO in 2022. During his first few months as CEO, Carey led the development of YAI’s latest strategic plan, which outlines the organization's blueprint for navigating the changing I/DD landscape over the next four years. Carey serves on multiple nonprofit boards, including Care Design New York and Building Solutions for Tomorrow.

“I am honored for this recognition and feel privileged to be leading YAI into the future while focusing on the important work we do serving people with I/DD in all aspects of their lives,” said Carey.
