Bob Saget was an American stand-up comedian, actor, director, and television host. He portrayed Danny Tanner on the sitcom “Full House” from 1987 to 1995. He did the same role again in the sequel “Fuller House” from 2016 to 2020. Bob was also the original host of the popular show American Funniest Home Videos from 1989 to 1997.
Bob Lane Saget was born into a Jewish family in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on May 17th 1956. His mother Rosalyn was a hospital administrator, and his father, Ben, was a supermarket chain executive. Early in his life Bob and his family moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he briefly attended Lake Taylor High School. Because he had few family members in Norfolk he returned to Philly for his bar mitzvah. Sometime after that the family moved to the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was herethat where Saget met Larry Fine, one of the original comedy team, The Three Stooges. Bob always enjoyed listening to Larry Fine’s showbiz stories. Eventually the family moved back to the Philly where Bob spent senior year at Abington high school.
In 1982 Bob met and married Sherri Kramer. They had three daughters, Aubrey, Lara, Melanie. Bob later married television presenter Kelly Rizzo. Bob and Kelly were married from 2018 until his death.
At about 4 AM on January 9th 2022 Bob was found dead in his hotel room at a Ritz Carlton hotel near Williamsburg in Orange County Florida. At the time of his death Saget was on a stand-up tour and had performed in Ponte Vedra Beach the previous evening.
His funeral took place on January 14th and he was buried at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery near the graves of his parents and sister. An autopsy report released on February 9th found that Saget had blunt head trauma from an accidental blow to the back of his head most likely from a fall and had injuries and died. I was a big fan of Full House because I loved his character as Danny Tanner. He was also known for his 2014 album “That's What I'm Talkin’ About,” which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.
