On Sunday, October 6, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment will present the 17th Advances in Autism Conference.

The conference is designed to help physicians, health care professionals, teachers and families receive the latest information on the accurate recognition, diagnosis and options and resources for treatment of autism spectrum disorders.

The annual one-day event, which will be held in the Stern Auditorium of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, includes a series of lectures and workshops by some of the most accomplished professionals in the field of autism. 

This year’s conference will feature a welcome by Dr. Joseph D. Buxbaum, course director, and guest speaker Linmarie Sikich, MD, Associate Professor and Director of the Adolescent and School-age Psychiatric Intervention Research Program (ASPIRE) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

Three of 10 National Institutes of Health Autism Centers of Excellence will be represented by conference speakers. Among these presenters are Abraham (Avi) Reichenberg, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry and Preventive Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and a Fellow of the Seaver Autism Center Research and Treatment; and Ting Wang, PhD, Assistant Professor in the departments of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Mount Sinai.

Three experts from the YAI Network, Dr. Peter Della Bella, Medical Director of YAI/Premier HealthCare, Jennifer Shaoul, Senior Coordinator of YAI LINK, and Tom Ott, Intake Coordinator in YAI Residential Supports and a therapist at YAI’s Center for Specialty Therapy.
