Rich Rosenbaum will have plenty of inspiration when he runs his first marathon on November 6 in New York City.

Rich was interviewed on WFAN.

He's running on behalf of his 6-year-old daughter, Lindsay, who has special needs, and the YAI Network, which has supported Lindsay’s development since she was 11-months-old.

"No one tries harder than Lindsay," Rich said. "She is one motivated child."

Rich is among 30 members of Team YAI who are all committed to running the 26.2 miles to raise awareness and funds that will benefit people with developmental disabilities. This year the ING New York City Marathon, through runners like Rich, will be supporting more than 200 area charities.

A 40-year-old Manhattan resident, Rich's goal is to enjoy running through the five boroughs and to "cross the finish line with a smile."

His wife, Kim, a former competitive athlete, is making sure he sticks to his training schedule -- even reminding him of runs he has to do while traveling on business. Kim has taken on the role of coach and cheerleader for Rich, having recently given birth to twin girls. They also have a 4-year-old son.

Lindsay, who enjoys swimming, music (especially Katy Perry!), dancing and horseback riding, received early intervention services at home, attended YAI’s Gramercy preschool, and today is enrolled at YAI’s Manhattan STAR Academy, a new school age program for children with developmental disabilities. She continues to overcome physical challenges and language delays and though she struggles with forming friendships, developing those social skills is a major goal for her at school.

“All the therapists and teachers are so committed to what they're doing,” said Rich. “It's their passion. They have done phenomenal things for Lindsay.”

"YAI's preschool, and now Manhattan STAR Academy, provide a wonderful environment for her to feel comfortable," Kim said. "She has become more independent and her language skills continue to grow."

As he joins thousands of other motivated marathon runners, Rich will be encouraged each mile as he thinks proudly of Lindsay’s progress.

“This is one of the greatest events in the world to be a part of,” said Rich. “I’m doing something I never could have imagined I’d do.”

He added: "We want to do whatever we can to help YAI. They have given so much more to Lindsay than we could ever give back.”
