Sharing a commitment to making the community a better place, YAI has been selected as the beneficiary of Whole Foods Market 5% Day.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, YAI will receive 5 percent of the day’s net sales at all seven Whole Foods Market stores in Manhattan. In partnership with Sprout by Design, an organization dedicated to designing and building indoor/outdoor gardens, YAI will develop a multi-faceted, garden-based educational program for people with developmental disabilities of all ages in schools, homes and workplaces.

YAI Gardens is an initiative which has taken off throughout YAI programs over the past year. Individuals supported by YAI and staff are responsible for more than 20 gardens at or near residences, day/employment programs and preschools.

“This initiative is a wonderful way to promote wellness, skill development and a sense of accomplishment,” said Fred Feibusch, YAI’s Vice President of Residential Services, who is also an avid gardener.

On September 17, YAI staff and individuals supported by the organization will be in stores from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. to share information about services and resources available to New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.

Five percent of net sales at all seven Whole Foods Markets in Manhattan on Sept. 17 will benefit New Yorkers with disabilities. Participating stores are located in the following neighborhoods:

  • Union Square: 4 Union Square South
