Four YAI Residenst in Port Washington recently went on an adventure to see some hit Broadway musicals. Amid the COVID surge, the people we support had limited access to cultural activities, but going to the shows was a first step toward resuming regular outings.
Residents Eileen Eldred and Carole Laub went to see The Lion King and two other residents, Steven McCance and William Hutton, went to see MJ: The Musical, along with several staff. Eldred and Laub sang along to Lion King classics such as the “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to be King,” and “Hakuna Matata.” After the shows, the group took a stroll through the city and enjoyed the night lights before having some after-show desserts. When asked what their favorite scenes were, they both responded, “It was all fantastic!”
Hutton could not contain his excitement during the Michael Jackson musical. He was transported back in time as he danced and sang along to every musical number. “The music was positively fantastic. The singing, the dancing and the lights, it was all so great,” Hutton said.
“The people we support could not have had a better experience attending the Broadway musicals,” said Karen Sacta, Assistant Supervisor. “We want to thank Karla Nogais, Port Washington’s Supervisor, for coordinating these events and positively impacting the lives of the people we support.”
