The pandemic may have derailed holiday festivities once again, but that didn’t stop Nostrand day habilitation (day hab) staff and staff from E.15th and Madison residences from celebrating with the people they support.
The group came together to host a COVID-safe brunch for the residents at both Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs). Fourteen people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) along with seven staff members were in attendance for the celebrations that included dancing, music, good food, karaoke, and egg painting.
“It really felt great to see staff come together between the two houses and put together a wonderful day for the people we support,” said Senior Supervisor Alicia Branche.
Everyone got to enjoy the beautiful day and indulge in the delicious spread cooked by Nostrand Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) Toni Peters, Zenaida Surita, and Jeanette Nahar.
They prepared food to celebrate both Easter and Passover. Some of the dishes included matzah ball soup, matzah and applesauce, eggs, ham, baked ziti, potato salad, and garden salad. The brunch ended with some sweet treats – cupcakes and peeps for all!
“This event was very special to everyone and they were looking forward to getting out the house,” said Branche. “E.15th and Madison have been blessed with three of the best day hab staff!”
